Fun Facts About the
Black Capped Chickadee

Untitled design (39).png

Like squirrels the Black-Capped Chickadee hides food items to eat later. They will hide their haul high and low and have the ability to remember thousands of hiding spots.

Every fall the Black-Capped Chickadees gets a fresh start. Their little brains allow neurons containing old information to die, replacing them with new neurons so they can adapt to changes in their social flocks and environment.

In the winter the Chickadee's diet is an even split between plant based: nuts and betties and seeds and animal based:insects, spiders, suet, and bits from frozen carcasses. In the spring summer and fall their diet is 80-90% animal based.

To delight chickadees and their bird friends plant seed bearing sunflowers in your yard for their fall feast.
